Purpose of eSports at Woodson ISD
Video gaming, whether competitive or casual, is a major part of many peoples lives. At Woodson ISD, our purpose and mission is as follows:
Create an understanding of acceptable behavior in the online community
Create healthy online social interactions between peers
Create lasting knowledge of one's digital footprint and how it impacts those around them
Create a healthy competitive culture for oneself
Understand balance between gaming and real world activities
Understand physical health and mental wellness needs associated with gamers
Develop critical thinking skills such as:
Planning and implementation of strategies
On the fly adjustments and calculations
Troubleshoot and modify equipment
Develop leadership skills
Develop collaboration and communication skills

Our Setup
Currently, Woodson ISD does not have dedicated computers that are designed specifically for gaming. Fortunately, we have been able to successfully tweak our basic lab computers to fit the needs and requirements for online competition.

Who can join?
Presently, Woodson ISD is in the beginning stages of our eSports program. Though interest is high, there is also some stipulations that must be maintained while participating in the program:
Our eSports program is open to students in grades 7-12
Grades 9-12 can compete competitively against other schools across Texas
Grades 7-8 currently will only be allowed to compete locally against other students
Students must sign and adhere to Woodson ISD's Acceptable Use Policy
Students must maintain a passing average and be in good standing with the school
Students must show initiative and commitment which can include games/practices outside of school hours, fundraiser involvement, travel, and community outreach
